A neighbor girl used to sing, “Here come the Sheppard girls,
here come the Sheppard girls,” when my sister and I were
walking to the bus stop in the morning. When I grew up, it
seemed like the perfect sweet name for my business.
I make door signs, bibs, burp cloths, cards and other gifts
using vintage and vintage-inspired fabric and trim. I sell
directly to individual customers, as well as in small boutique
and specialty gift stores. My items are simply small, fun, fine-
made gifts – vintage-inspired versions of standard things that
everyone uses.
Great fabric, beautiful wool felt, quirky rickrack and ribbon
continuously inspire me. I love combining different materials –
painting with stitching, sewing with ribbon. It’s more
interesting to include more than one element.
When all my friends started having babies, I started giving
door signs as gifts. People loved them, told others, and away
we went. As my kids have gotten a little older, I’ve discovered
how fun headbands and barrettes can be. We’ll see what’s
next!
I have been making little things my whole life and am so happy
to have an opportunity to share some of my art with you.
